Redefining Healthy

So long as we say that we want to live “Healthy Anywhere”, we thought it worth a moment to consider exactly what we mean when we say “healthy”. Each person has their own definition of healthy, which tends to evolve over time.
While we may initially associate “healthy” with a visual appearance or an internal feeling (“do I ‘look’ good?” “do I feel healthy and strong”), we grow to learn the importance of mental health and of emotional and social health (“do I have ‘healthy’ relationships?”), etc. Over the years “healthy” has become more expansive and holistic – a mindset and way of life, not just an outward or inward characteristic.

A healthy body – through eating right and exercising – alone is insufficient. We need healthy relationships, perspective, and a sense of purpose and contribution.. and these all start with a healthy attitude towards ourselves.

Today we are learning that “healthy” means balance not only in how we honor our bodies, minds, and spirit, but also our community and surroundings.
Yes, it’s an ever-expanding definition; and while perfect balance across all aspects at once is near impossible, perhaps most important at any given moment is our awareness of where we are with each aspect. Awareness allows us to see clearly and to attend to improvements where possible. This “healthy” awareness starts internally, with ourselves, and then extends to others – so that we may encourage and enrich the lives around us.

Our mantra: Eat Clean + Breathe Deep + Move Often + Never Settle™ intends to succinctly capture the categories and essence of healthy. In future posts, we will dive deeper into each phase to examine the category connections.

What does “healthy” mean to you? How has your definition of healthy changed over the years, or as a result of this writing? Please tell us in the comments below.
